NOKIA E71 – “BUSINESS” AND “PERSONAL” SMARTPHONE

by revamp on December 3, 2008

Nokia announces the new eye candy, Nokia E71, the smartphone from the Eseries range. This stuff with a QWERTY keyboard targets all the business users worldwide. In some ways the E71 is the iPhone’s nemesis – using almost the identical dimensions in a totally different way, for a totally different set of users.

The E71 looks more like a Blackberry killer, but don’t be fooled. What comes to your mind when you touch this phone for the first time is its high build quality and a feeling of sturdiness. The E71 is stocked with enough apps and goodies to keep even the most overworked road warrior on the ball, but it didn’t feel too “business”. The latest silver/white variant of the E71 can also be found in the “Superwoman” music video by Alicia Keys.

Nokia E71 features :

  • Quad band GSM / GPRS
  • Integrated and Assisted GPS
  • Symbian OS 9.2, Series 60 v3.1 UI
  • 320 x 240 pixels, 2.36 inches
  • 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • QWERTY keypad
  • microSD (TransFlash), up to 8GB, hotswap
  • WiFi 802.11b/g WLAN networking
  • Modes: Define user preset standby screens for different times of the day
  • FM Radio
  • MP3/AAC/MPEG4 player
  • Stand-by Up to 410 h and Talk time Up to 10 h 30 min

The phone’s 2.36-inch, 320 x 240 QVGA display is only slightly smaller than the iPod Classic’s. In this little master you need to perform even more finger gymnastics in order to type on the tiny thumb keyboard – the E71 really isn’t going to be good for those with big hands. The keys themselves are terrific, despite the miniscule size, with good feel and travel. It is designed to house all of your work apps like Excel and PowerPoint.

The camera’s includes 3.2 megapixels with optional auto-focus and LED flash. For all music lovers the built-in music player supports MP3, WMA, W4A, AAC, AAC+ and eAAC+ files, as well as OMA DRM 2.0- and WM DRM-protected songs. It is also featured with RealPlayer to check out 3GPP and MPEG-4 files. There is also a direct link to the Nokia Music Store.

The E71 runs Symbian OS 9.2, Series 60 3.1 edition, and comes with full support for viewing and editing. The E71 also has a new “Modes” application which basically allows you to quickly switch the phone between two modes: “Business” and “Personal”. Up to 8 GB in an easy-to-access, external microSD slot. Textured stainless steel backing prevents slippage.Quick and seamless OS. GPS, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth (you name it, it’s basically got it).

The Nokia E71’s 1,500mAh battery has a rated talk time of 10.5 hours (GSM) and up to 17 days of standby time.
