Canon finally announced its new flagship PowerShot compact digital camera: the PowerShot G10.The Canon G10 is an impressive photographic tool for the discriminating enthusiast.

This is a camera that supports and nurtures creativity, with a full range of shooting and recording modes and compatibility with exciting accessories including Speedlite flashes. This anticipated G10, the successor to the G9 is the first G-series camera to offer a new 14.7 megapixel CCD sensor and, more usefully, a new 28-140mm wide zoom and increased screen resolution – plus a DIGIC IV processor.
The Canon PowerShot G10 is enhanced with Faster and more accurate noise reduction delivers better image quality, even at high ISO speeds. Canon G10 has grown just a little larger than the G9 in all directions, though, with the biggest increase being an extra third of an inch (6mm) of height. The Canon G10’s handgrip and optical viewfinder have been reprofiled.
With a range-leading resolution and a large 3.0” PureColor LCD II allows easy framing and ultra-detailed review of every shot; this is complemented by improved colour rendition and an exceptionally wide viewing angle. A close look at the Canon G10’s images makes it clear that the Canon G10 meets the enthusiast’s standard and is easily worthy of a Dave’s Pick. The DIGIC 4 Image Processor introduced in the new G10 has features that makes the new i-Contrast system, which controls the compensation level in pixel units to brighten dark areas while leaving bright areas unchanged for better images where the main subject is dark.
This Canon G10 includes true optical image stabilization to help combat blur from camera shake. The New Face Self-Timer Technology included in the G10 automatically detects an increase in the number of faces and makes the appropriate adjustments,Face Detection self timer which automatically takes a photo two seconds after an additional face enters the scene. A comprehensive accessory system now includes support for Canon’s Macro Ring Lite and Macro Twin Lite, which offer powerful new possibilities for close-up shots and other creative photography.
The Canon G10 opts for H.264 MOV, a newer format which generally offers significantly improved compression for high class video quality. The new G10 is included with a Red-eye Correction for removing red-eye from subjects in flash pictures.
